Other Characteristics of PVC :
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) has excellent transparency, chemical resistance, long-term stability, and good stable electrical properties. Traditionally a rigid material, but with the addition of phthalate esters as plasticizers, PVC becomes a soft and pliable material excellent for tubing. Though it may be attacked by many organic solvents, it stands up against oils and has a low permeability to gases. In its rigid form, PVC is found in sheets for use in items such as trays.

Chemical Resistance :
Acids – Dilute Excellent
Acids – Concentrated Excellent
Alcohols Excellent
Aldehydes Poor
Bases Excellent
Esters Poor
Ethers Poor
Hydrocarbons, Aliphatic Excellent
Hydrocarbons, Aromatics Poor
Hydrocarbons, Halogenated Poor
Ketones Poor
Oils, Minerals Excellent
Oil, Vegetable Good

PVC for Laboratories:
PVC is a good option for packaging because it is available in a great range of sizes, shape, and color. Although PVC is typically transparent it can be dyed almost any color. PVC is also a good choice for packaging based on its high resistance to diluted acids and alkalis. PVC can be sterilized by gas and chemical disinfectant.

Other uses of PVC:
Flexible PVC is used for such items as wire, cable sheathing insulation, film, floor covering, synthetic leathers, and medical tubing.
