The sample bags are composed of polyethylene plastic, which offers superior transparency and extraordinary strength for containing samples. Whirl-Pak sterile sample bags are designed to maintain the original chemical composition of liquids, semi-liquids, and solid samples to ensure that they are not compromised and are stored safely. Each of these sterile sample bags can be used in temperatures below 180°F (82°C) and can be frozen, even with liquid nitrogen, though caution should be taken when handling.

Some Whirl-Pak sample bag sizes include writing areas to assist with organization and identification. The write-on areas are smear-proof and accept ballpoint pens, pencils, or felt-tip markers. After manufacturing, each Whirl-Pak sample bag is sterilized by ethylene oxide gas. Documentation can be obtained if required.

Clear samples bags feature clean edges and a 1.25 ml thickness, which can hold various laboratory supplies and can be sealed with impulse bag sealers.
